They opened Searles Castle to the public today. The nuns who operate the castle had it decorated for Christmas. C&C appreciated. Thanks!

Its a LOT early for that, Dimitri! Unfortunately, they only open the castle to the public a couple of weekends a year in the fall, and I happened to see the sign for it this weekend. I've gone up and shot the outside of the castle several times, but I'd never had the opportunity to go inside. It's a beautiful building, but there was WAY too much Christmas stuff in it to be able to really appreciate the building itself.

Here's (external link)a little more information about the castle.

The first shot of the courtyard is very well exposed Becca :)
I would have expected the top of the arch to be in shadow and the sky blown on a shot like this...you controlled it well!

Very nice colours and saturation in #1 too.

I used my 50mm 1.8 for that shot. Love that little lens!

I have to admit to a bit of PP as the arch was a little dark. It was a challenging shot!

Not in the U.S., Dimitri. Last weekend, a local radio station was playing ONLY Christmas music. It's quite common here for Christmas decorations and themes to start showing up in mid-October. It's pyschological...the earlier you start reminding people of Christmas, the earlier they start shopping for presents. It's all about the $$$.

Those are some realling nice pictures, Becca. As I was scrolling down, I was thinking "Where's Santa?" Alas, there he was in the last shot. :-)

Gorgeous shots, Becca. I love the framing in the first shot.... my favorite is the lightpost. Very nice.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Lovely series, Rebecca.
The first shot really stands out IMO.
I like everything about it.
As Steve has pointed out it's very well exposed.

Not too sure about the last image.
Not to put too fine a point on it but it looks like rigor has set in on Santa.
I know it can get a bit parky (chilly) up there in Lapland. ;)

I agree... and I had to laugh when I read your comment. This was a Santa figurine, not a real man! So I guess that could explain the somewhat "plastic" appearance! :D

 I did realise that, Rebecca.
Haven't cracked open the Scotch just yet. :)

Glad you saw the funny side.
