New Gear Baptism by Duckshots

Some time ago I made a suggestion that a revised POTN standard should be adopted whereby new gear was baptised by obligatory treeshark shot posts, as opposed to them old ducks. Alas, the proposal was met with acrimony and vexation, primarily by Scottes, The Poutine Man and some other senior POTNers. If memory serves me well, Belmondo did not seem to care either way because at the time he was knee-deep into desert photography of flowers, buses and trains. Cyber kinda kept silent on the issue. However, I think I could read his mind on the subject....to him the true lens baptism shot involves a capture of an osprey at the point of talon impact.

Thus, not willing to rock the boat again, I am staying with baptism duckshots today....and indeed, I have seen some excellent ones around here. However, I'd like to prevail on all duckshooters out there to endeavour to make their shots a bit different from the norm....not neccessarily bizare....just outta ordinary....like, give it a twist of sorts. All in the interest of good cheer and mirth.

Not big on Duck shots. In Iowa when they get shot most would not want to see them. Also, where I live they are so plentiful we see them everywhere. Nice shots, though. I like the last one the best.

Sure ... anyone can shoot a Duck but it a major insult to the Duck shootin' shooter him/herself to use a mega $/£/etc bag of gear and just come back with something as mundain as we so often see here. If that's all these guys can capture and if that is where their quality standard ends then they may as well give up frankly.

Let's face it, shooting is an art form as much as a 'technical exercise' so be great to see people actually S T R E T C H themselves for a change and shoot an interesting Duck.

We aren't against Duck shots per se but I think we all should resist positively reinforcing the dull, mundain and average. No more 'sharp shot, what lens is that' or 'congrats, sharp. Thanks for sharing' BS. That gets no one anywhere other than an addiction to sniffin' the B&H shopping cart.

and there I was, out in the more remote areas of this state today, stalking kangaroos, platypus and emus when I spied some rather interesting ducks.

Petkal and Condyk, I thought (this place IS getting too pervasive), as I aimed the camera in their direction.

Well, sad to say, the pictures were taken with some of the contents of a mega $/£/etc bag of gear - so I suspect your interest will be minimal. Sad, really. Nice looking ducks, too.

Mr Bloke ... no one is against big buck gear but only how it is sometimes 'wasted' on crummy and boring photo's ad nausium when a little more effort in 'eye' or 'craft' development could raise the bar for the shooter. Each to their own.

My interest would not be minimal...I love to live vicariously through other photographers....

I have talked to many ducks, and to be honest I have found very few of them to be really interesting

Are they good at working out problems with the ladies? If so maybe it's cheaper then going to that psychologist ...
