After the band finished and the amps started getting turned off I thought I would grab audience portraits. I swung the umbrella on the stand 180deg and asked Michael to stand still and look to my left. I took a test shot, and then this one below. Thats all. One minute flat - then it was over -the umbrella was picked up and moved off the floor by a youth leader and it was time for what was next on the "to do" list. Oh well. Got one goodshot

Well it was speedy as I said. The Tv and iso was already sorted in the preceding 20mins. When I moved the umbrella all I had to worry about -for over or under- was how close the subject was to the brelly. So I chimped and saw it was okay where he was. I could've adjusted the power down but it was close enough in a rush. I find in raw and mono PP you can correct roughly a whole stop or more up or down without too much degradation. I was chimping in mono (ie; I had set the pic style to mono) because you tend to notice nasal shadows and shadows in general a lot more easily etc.

Nice, but the shadow is a bit... distracting. Otherwise great lighting and sharpness.

Strong image which proves once again, just keep shooting. You never know when you will luck into an exceptional image

...I don't mind the shadow at all BTW.

That is a well done, strong dramatic image ! The only thing that might help is to crop off a little from the top.

I wouldn't crop, but would maybe try and see what a little rotate clockwise would do to straighten up the horizontal in the background.
Otherwise, very well done

Thx all. To crop or not... to straighten or not... I wish that lighting fixture wasn't there! The 30D viewfinder is just a tad small.. (my excuse) what the EOS system engineers should work up is a sensor that beeps when there are distracting/bright background objects in the frame.
Oh, wait, they did already, there's no beep and its called checking/chimping!
