I know this is a EOS Digital Forum...

But I wanted to ask how many of you guys actually still use film?

I have a Canon AE-1 P
Canon 20D
and I wanted to add a Canon Elan 7NE to the collection...

I wanted to see how many people still use film... And how many recomend the above camera just to have in the camera collection. Ive always wanted a modern day film camera, along with my digital..

Thanks!

I have the same setup as you now.
I voted as a film & digital user, but since I got my 20D a couple weeks ago I haven't used my AE-1. Film really loses it's pleasure pretty quickly, though hopefully I'll go back to enjoying it.. maybe for some black & whites.
If you are going to use it, go for it, but if you aren't, then there's no true point other than having a back up.
The eye-control could be fun, though. :P

Main two reasons I wanted an Elan 7ne was because I have an old school film, but I always wanted a modern day film camera.

And because I wanted a cost effective backup body to my 20D

Im a digital guy, but I shot 203 rolls of color and Kodak Tri-X 400 black&white film and just had a blast doing it. For stright hobby use, shooting film can teach you something new everything you go develop.

Not to mention canon is phazing out film cameras, and i wanted to pick one up while I still have the chance. None of my local photo stores carry them anymore.

Well it sounds like you really want it so I say go for it.
There's always an EOS-3, too, which is one of my dream cameras. Just depends on how much money you want to put into it which probably wouldn't be much (atleast in my case).

Does the body really matter that much with a film camera?

Yeah, different cameras can give you different options like a wider selection of shutter speeds and different FPS.
Also I would think their AF speeds would change per camera as well. Same things as DSLRs except for the image quality essentially unless I'm mistaken.

As the happy owner and still user of a 7NE....I can highly recommend it...very nice way to burn film...still use it for b/w and color both.

I've got the EOS Rebel Film and the 20D and have been considering for some time the 7NE but just can't seem to justify getting it because of the amount of use my film bodies get now a days. I carry it as a back up when on weekend trips, etc.

Personally I'd say go for it - full frame will give you an interesting perspective, and the knowledge you have from digital SLR will only improve your film photography.

I'd love to get a 1 series film Eos, but truly can't justify it - my old eos 100 ( the original Elan) is still in working order and still a great camera.

And to be honest while I do still use film, it is becoming less and less....

I like my Elan 7ne, when I do get a chance to shoot film I enjoy it. I'd love to upgrade to a 1 series, though.

We've got the EOS 30 which I think is same as the Elan 7E ...very nice camera, especially with the battery grip added.

I shot my last two rolls of film last year and closed that door for good. I don't miss anything about it, but that's just me. Think I've run at least several dozen rolls of 36-exp (I always used 36, what is this about 24-exp?) film in all my years of shooting. Of course, you'll realize I shot far less with film. I keep a 10 year old can of Kodak Pro160 on my desk as a souvenir. It's never been used and probably never will be. I wonder what it will look like if I actually shot it

However if I needed a film system in a hurry, my votes would go to the Elan 7 series as excellent value, or the awesome EOS 3.

Just for fun I put together the EOS rig I would have liked to have in my film days (I didn't even HAVE an EOS system back then!!), down to all the dates when the equipment was released (so no 1VHS because that would be much later). It's interesting to note that my preferred setup for that time would be the EOS 5, with newly-released 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM. Even more interesting is that today, my setup is nearly identical - EOS 5D with newly released 24-105 f/4L IS ;)

I shoot both - I have a 20D for most of my photography now, but still have a Nikon F100 with a couple of primes and have started to use this for B&W work.
I have recently bough a s/h EOS 30 to enable me to shoot film, but still make use of my decent Canon glass (except the EF-S stuff of course).

I scan the negs in using an old Minolta fim scanner, that gives results better than most labs give you back from the Frontier machine!

I recently picked up an AE-1 and I love it more than my 350D.

That said, I use the 350D more because it is more convient.
