I shoot both, but mostly digital ...by far. I shot my last roll of film in October, and I've got a 1/2 roll in the AE-1 right now.

Oddly enough, I've gone against the grain on this one.. I went from digital to film (well, for a little while). When I decided to move up from my A95, a relative gave me her old AE-1 + 50mm 1.8. The current value of FD glass being what it is, I've bought a few more lenses since.

Although I mostly shoot digital, I still pack the AE-1 when I need something robust, light and unappealing to thieves.

As long as develping costs allow it, I'd love to shoot through a roll every few months just for fun...

I voted both, because I recently started picking up our old Rebel G and using it. It was amazing to see the field of view differences between it and the Rebel XT when using the 70-200mm f/4L. Just like before when using a film camera, however, I have yet to get those photos developed. That was about three weeks or so ago. :)

HEY! Put that film thingy down! Next thing we know you'll be wanting full frame digital! ;)

Just kidding.... you came up with some great observations. We are now looking at a generation of digital 1.6X shooters who think 28mm is wide and 50mm on a crop camera is normal - heck no, no matter which way you slice it, ~40-60mm in the classical 35mm format is considered normal or near-normal. Now put that EF 28mm on a full frame, film or otherwise, and be amazed.....

I do admit to being from the film days.. but if we're going to read, use, and discuss focal lengths based on film nomenclature, then converting to 35mm format is a necessity. I have also shot Canon's film EF Rebel 1000F.. the 50mm has never looked so good! That is a TRUE normal lens!

70mm is pleasantly wide on a full frame.. now I see why the 70-200 is the PJ lens of choice. On 1.6X it had always been long tele to me, and rightfully so (112-480mm for my 70-300 IS).. in the same way my 100-400 is less useful on the wide end on my 5D.

I was trying to sell my Elan 7n a few weeks back and nobody wanted it. I've decided to keep it. I love that camera. I think I'm just going to go out an buy some Fuji Reala and some B&W film, and I'm going to go out and have some fun.

I still have a few rolls of PRO400H and PRO160S in the refrigerator. Now that is some very nice portrait film.

I got 2 Kodak Instamatics in the original boxes for $2.50 at the thrift store this weekend! I also got a GE light meter that seems to function for $5 in a leather case. :)

Just got my first DSLR about 3 weeks ago. Have not picked up my Hassy 500cm since. I sure I will. I still want to get a large format camera. Along with that would come setting up a darkroom and doing my own developing and printing. I think I will save all that until I retire which would be another 15 years. Hopefully earlier. I really enjoyed it when I took a class in L format.

I shot film for about 11 years but didn't "play" as much as I would have liked because of the film and processing costs. I spent a few years behind my 300D and did all the experimenting I wanted to. Now I shoot my Elan 7N (didn't go for the E, heard it was more of a pain than a benefit) much much more than my Rebel.

Having come from a full frame camera, going to the DRebel was debilitating as far as brightness and FOV go. But, getting to play with the 300D for a few years has let me do all the things I wanted to do but didn't want to have to pay for. Now I shoot my Elan with a confidence I didn't have for 11 years.

Why do I shoot film and not go with a 5D? One word .... prints.

It sure is... It even works! I was playing with the camera, and blinded myself figuring that there was no way the cube would work.

Thing is, film is going to become a niche market soon. Most film makers will stop making film, most other companies will stop making paper and chemicals. Prices will shoot up and it's going to become expensive. You can still buy a brand new dot matrix printer but they have become expensive, used to be cheap throwaways but some companies still need them for physical audit trails. Same for film. This will soon become a moot argument. Once HDR cameras are the norm won't matter anyways.

The fact of the matter is both Kodak and Fuji have released updated versions of their professional films with in the past year, that are geared to a more modern hybrid work flow. And Ilford has renewed commitment to film.

Yes for the general Walgreens and Wal-Mart crowd film maybe dead but for the serious amateur and professional film will remain a viable choice for years and years to come.

To the OP, Get a MF I recommend something in the 6x6 or 6x7 format nothing like a nice 6x6 Astia slide :)

"Film is what you get when you don't brush your teeth?"

Why be such a hater?

Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

If you don't like it, don't use it.

To each his own.

I just live it! this little baby gives me eye focus and 5fps per second. And a choice of 36 or 24 shoots. I can also change the ISO manually. :P Powered by 1 little battery that dont weigh a ton and can be bought anywere. Unfortunately the EF-s lenses dont fit, but hey you cant have it all!!:D
