very true.. my least favorite part of children.. just when you think they are just about perfect they change it up on you... I tried to convince abby not to turn seven last summer.. not only did she say to 'forget it'..but once she was seven she's decided that any kind of handholding is now beneath her....

Oh, that wouldn't stop me. I love holding my children and hugging them and kissing them, and teasing them and embarrassing them . . . :)

I've been a bad Buddhist for 25+ years and so Christmass means nothing to me, but I usually give money to a homeless charity like Crisis at Christmas or Salvation Army because I think Christmas must be a very lonely time for a lot of people. One year I bought lots of Chickens for Africa through Oxfam and 'gave them' to friends and family. I am likely to be working for a lot of it but might go to Gambia, NY or Amsterdam for a week with a friend. I'd rather travel than buy stuff. I have all I need.

We do the same kinds of things for Christmas. My mom and I always "adopt" a family and provide a tree, some decorations, gifts, and all the fixin's for Christmas dinner. We try to get the name of a family from our church or someone we know rather than go through a social service agency. There are so many families who don't have the funds to celebrate the holidays and are too proud to ask for help.

I also gave shares in a yak one year from http://www.heifer.org/ (external link) . I see this year they have water buffalo on their gift lists!

Where we live the people are very generous. Coat drives, toy drives, food drives, etc. Kids do a mitten tree every year and hygene kits are put together for families. Several years ago our little ladies group made 300 baby blankets. I always end up helping out with children performing at nursing homes (I play the piano and sing). Our family will probably perform somewhere. My sons all play instruments and sing.

I'm a pretty active member in the local chapter of the Lions Club, and we do a huge party every year for kids that wouldn't otherwise have anything at christmas. One of our members dresses up as Santa....and all of the kids get food, music, and a gift each. It's a good time, and all the kids love it.

That part of NY state has many rural areas. Some families have a hard time even paying for their fuel in the winter. Kids really are doing without real warm coats or decent shoes. There is nothing like that here in Northern Virginia. People can't afford it here, move. But where you are, Ronald, real charity and grateful people. Food banks go way low most of the year.

Nikon...D200

(KIDDING)!

I've spent the year spending...seriously. There's nothing that I really want (some things I'm thinking about but nothing firm yet) except for both my kids to be home for the holidays.

Actually, there are MANY things about Nikon I really like...(though it always gets me in trouble around here to say it)...

me neither... I thought of something else.. My sister. home. it's only been about seven years.. I would like my sister to come home and go shopping with me.. and complain about the aunts making us make candy, so that we can go through eachothers wardrobes make fun of what we hate and swipe what we like, so that we can sneak off to a movie right before the christmas eve party, and wander around the grocery store at two in the morning and complain about being woken up early together.. and tease our baby brother.. and avoid our mother like the plague knowing that neither one of us is going to critisize the other for it.. yep, i'd like my sister to come home.. jeez I miss being a twin..

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Nikons, really. Just choose the brand and standard you like better. For me, I've been an Canon girl since I was 12 when my brother got his F-1. I like the format and can't imagine changing. Now, if someone very rich gives me $10k worth of Nikon stuff to match my Canon stuff, I may reconsider. :) Nah.

nah.. Meg is four inches taller and a blonde with green eyes.. nothing like me at all really... not physically or personality... but, we compliment eachother pretty well.. yeah, were a pretty good set.. I remember right after Meg got married and everybody kept asking her how it felt to be a couple.. she said that she's always been a couple.. now it's just with somebody else...
