If there's anything left after buying gifts for my children and my mother, I'm considering either studio lights or a lens. The Tamron 17-50 or the 50 f/1.4 are on the short list at this point for new acquisitions.

Gosh liza, never noticed you didn't have a wide lens or the "real" 50. Might as well go all out and spend the extra hundred or two and get a 17-40L, eh? Unless you need that 2.8. The build quality and USM alone are worth the extra to me. The 50 1.4 is a good ol' thing. Don't know if I'd have it and an 85, but hey. As for studio lights, I got an AB400 a couple weeks back and it's a great lil' thing. Lots of control, and you feel so important!

I really never have had the need for a wide lens, Ron. I shoot mainly telephoto when I'm covering sporting events. Now that I'm adding weddings to the mix, I need something wider with a constant f/2.8, though, thus the Tamron. The 85 I own is for basketball rather than portraits, and I figure the 50mm would complement it well for under the basket shots. It would also double as a nice portrait lens.

I'm considering Alien Bees, but am also looking at White Lightnings and Normans for my studio lighting setup. We'll just have to see how much I end up making from all these senior portraits I've been shooting.

Liza, since you have the Tammy, you don't need the 17-40, it's f4 and indoors, must have flash. I love my 17-40 for landscapes and it's not cheap. Why do some people in this forum make newbies think that a $600 lens isn't expensive. Comparatively, to the L and telephoto lenses it's not, but really, $600 for a lens when the camera costs a little more than that, is a lot of money. Back to the hot chocolate, Suzie. I'm waking up, I promise.

Can't decide if I should go the Costco route again or just go through B&H. My cart is already set. Oh, I hate this deciding and always, it's Friday and B&H is closed.

I'd go the Costco route. You can take it back if it's not for you, or if you decide you just don't want to/can't keep it. Plus, you'll get your whole amount paid back. With B&H, you can't take more than something like 120 shots.

Man I just hit Photo Plus Expo today, it was TORTURE. I am very happy with the gear I have but I would really love some new lenses.

The 70-200IS 2.8, YUM
The 24-105 was like buttah
The 5D's viewfinder sent me back thinking of my Nikon f3HP.

Plus, Playstation 3, a new macbook pro, and the software to go with it and I could make myself broke. Dont think I'll be getting ANY of it anytime soon tho =(
