My 10-22mm lens just arrived yesterday (thank you, UPS, for offering to let me pick it up tonight instead of waiting until Monday). I had planned to wait a little while before buying a new lens, but I just couldn't resist. Unfortunately, the weather in Ithaca right now is rain with a 100% chance of more rain, so I can't take my new toy outside to give it a try.

I wanted to test just how wide "ultra wide angle" was, so I thought I'd test it with a picture of my other hobby. First, let us look at a picture taken with the widest lens I had before, my 24-105mm:

This was taken from about two feet behind the drumset at the lens's widest angle. Now, let us take a look with the 10-22mm at its widest:

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

This picture was taken from the exact same place as the first. When I looked through the viewfinder and saw the entire kit, my mouth dropped wide open.

This is going to be fun:)

Congratulations on your new lens. I have two non L lenses that I can rely on to give me truly outstanding results. One is the 50mm f1.4, and the other is the Canon 10-22mm. I LOVE THE 10-22! Wait till you see the colors and sharpness outside in good light.

It's a fun lens if you know how to use it. IQ is L quality.

The 17-40L should make your mouth drop the same way on your 5D :D

What is IQ when talking about lenses?

Sorry about my silly question.

Is it talking about the Aspherical and UD qualities (quality of optics)?

I love that about this lens..the close proximity you can be to your subject.

Well, I've been playing for about 16 years now. It's not really a hobby any more as much as it is a way of life. Something beautiful about an activity that becomes something through which you define yourself. I imagine many feel the same way about photography.

And the 16-35 should be the same on your FF as 10mm on the crop body

Get the Sigma 10-20mm, just as sharp as the 10-22 from Canon.
