I'm about to purchase two new cameras, but I'm unsure of which lenses I should choose. I'm going to be getting a Canon EOS 1V and a Canon EOS 5D. And I'm wanting to know a couple things. Are lenses inter-changeable between film and digital? And I'm looking to spend around 4000 total for the lenses, any hints?

Thanks.

As long as they're EF mount they're interchangeable.

You should narrow your lenses down by purpose. Just giving a $4000 budget helps only by ruling out single lenses that cost above that.

24-70, 70-200 IS and 16-35 will do a nice job on your budget and give you a good core set of FF lenses. Maybe add the 85 f/1.8 or 50 f/1.4 if there's any left over. Most, if not all those (don't remember about the 24-70) are on rebate.

Rebate season means you can pretty much get the 50 1.4 or 85 1.8 for free :) with Jon's recommendations.

Yes, do narrow down the choices by what you'll shoot and how. Tell us more.

Well, I'm going to pursue a career in full time conflict photography. But my main interest in photography is expression of (living) human emotion. So I will be doing alot of portraiture work (a mix of head/shoulders and full torso shots). I believe firmly in the famous Capa quote, so I wont be needing a tremendous zoom. And I'd really like a solid wide-angle. I hope that narrows it down a bit.

Thanks for your time. :)

24-70 gives i believe a 40 dollar rebate. Nice triple rebates for those 3.

24-70 $50 (!)
70-200 IS $50
16-35 $50
85 1.8 $20
50 f/1.4 $20
And doubled for more than 2. Pays for one of the primes right there. Oh, and the 5D has $300, doubled. Get those 3 zooms and the 5D, the primes are free AMIR!
