prefer the color image but I dont like the divided (b&w) backgound.. I would select the white part int he color image with the magic wand tool, select a feather of 2 min. or 5 max and fill it in with black

the split background is really distracting but aside from that nice shot... I like the color one better...

I love the contrast of black to white!! the B&W shot doesn't really work for me as much as the color version does!

Nice shots though!!! I like the lighting, and the HAT!

He still has one more move.

The split background is definitely interesting. At first I couldn't figure out what was different about the pictures. Half of me likes it and half of me doesn't. In the end, I think it distracts from the subject, though. I prefer the colour version :). Nice lighting!

ETA: Looking at the colour version more, the split BG makes the picture look 3D! Really cool effect.

adorable ! I love both ..

i wish I had a copy of my neighbours little boys photo's to show you, and which is the reason i was browsing the boards = the photographer used the same technic with the hat in colour, and then they did just the ball. the boys were in overalls, and instead of b&w they used brown and white .. try it, it really looked adorable !

and to be honest my question is how do you do this ? ie pinpoint just one part of the photo to make it colour, and the rest b&w ?

Honestly I like both but being a sucker for BW I think it is my favorite. As for the split BG, it doesn't really distract from the shot to me.

I asked you not to superimpose my arse on children any more! Although, I must say it is quite cute.

I am torn between the two. The black white contrast is a problem, but I'm not sure making it all black or all white would solve the problem...

Can we see your test of the all black background.

Brice

I love the shot! On the selective color shot it almost looks too bright for me. I hope you don't mind, but I did an edit too...I'll take it down if you like! I just desaturated it a bit so the red wasn't so bright against the BW...I too would love to see the shot on all black, but I still love the contrast!

The combination background is too distracting...either all black or all white would have worked better. The B/W version with selective coloring is very interesting...try that on a full black background and you might have a winner.
