Hi,

I recently made the switch from a 10D to a 30D and I love it! The 30D has exceeded all my expectations and the pictures are great! (No duck shots, mostly cats...)

Anyway, on my 10D there is a switch that lets me lock the ISO, WB, and exp. comp., so they don't get accidentally changed. I'm finding that the 30D doesn't let me do this and that if I accidentally press the ISO button and then move the Quick Control Dial (like when getting my camera out of the bag), then I sometimes inadvertently change the ISO setting. The same goes for exp. comp and WB buttons.

Is this normal operation for the 30D, or is there a way I can lock these buttons like I can on the 10D?

Thanks!
~Dom

I believe the on/of switch for the control dial is now linked to the on/off switch of the camera. One notch up, the control dial is off, all the way up it is on and functional. I just made the same upgrade and am still learning the ropes. Very nice camera.

MarkoPolo has it right. I use the QCD to set ISO (but the switch must be in the highest position).

This 30D is a sweetie.

Unfortunately, the above advice is "incorrect"!! If you accidently push the WB/ISO, etc on the top of the camera and rotate the back dial it WILL change the settings no matter what position the on/off switch is in (except off of course :) ). The switch being in the "on" position instead of the next one up ONLY locks out accidental "EC" changing.. Gerry

I re-read the 30D instruction book and came to the same conclusion as Gerry. I don't think the instruction book is quite clear on the use of the OFF/ON/UP switch. I wonder what the advantage is of having it operate this way...
