Please C&C

Shot this photo today of my daughter riding her bike.

Shot with a Canon 30D with 70-200 F2.8 L IS.

The only thing that I have done to the photo is auto sharpen in PS 5.0. It seems that I have to adjust all my photos to get them sharp; wonder if I need to have my camera checked. Any advice would be welcome.

Her hair looks a little over shaprened on my monitor. But I love the look on her face. Cute!

Thanks Greg.

You are right about the sharpening I went and looked at the photo again and it looks like that I have added to much sharpening.

Here is a link of the full size image, which I think looks a little better than the one I resized and posted. Not sure why it does not look like the orig one, maybe I did something wrong when I resized it.

Don't send it back. I am one who PP every picture I take to crop or to sharpen or both. It's a matter of what your procedure is that makes the shot work for you. I didn't PP any of my 10D events pictures because I didn't know I could do that. The pictures all seemed soft, but my customers thought they were great. I never thought about it. Then I learned how to use the new software PS7.0 then and PSE5.0 now and I will take a quick look at every shot I want printed and do any adjustments I need. If I am in a rush and I see the shot is okay, I don't worry about it. People don't look as closely as I do, and probably as you do. Find a procedure that works for you where you spend about 1 minute per shot and save to a new file and keep track. That way I print the shots I want and keep a record of the adjustments I made.

That is what happens when you post. The resolution isn't the same. But don't worry about it. You can link to the thread and just tell people that the original is sharp as you just did. If Pekka let us post our photos in the resolution we needed for the photo to be tack sharp, he'd be broke.

Thanks SuzyView

I thought there was away to resize the picture and keep it looking like the original. I guess it does make perfect sense if you resize a image you are going to reduce the quality.

I have seen some pictures on this site that look tact sharp resized. Do they have a better process of resizing? Should I resize the org and then do my PS to the resized image?

I'm not at my regular desktop right now, so I can't show you what I mean by using the attachment (under 800kb) to fit in the forum vs. linking the photo to your smugmug account. In photobucket, I just copy the IMG link onto the post here and it shows itself through the website. Very easy to do. This keeps the costs lower here and I know my photobucket account is free.

Great shot. A tad over sharpened maybe.

Mitch, very nice. Just the right amount, IMO.

Thanks Suzie. But it's not me really. The other day I ran across a post by Keith, [kr88], who posted his settings he uses in CS2. And he got them from an article he read and they got it from a piece by Canon who recommended these settings. :)

Levels, set the midtones to 1.15. Unsharp Mask, 300, 0.3, 0. I started with those, then dragged the 300 back a bit, watching the hair in the bangs until it looked good, 273 or thereabouts. Then ran the whole thing through NeatImage and Wallah... Took about a minute. :)

Yep. Love that USM. Makes life very easy. And even in PSE5.0, it's easy to use.
