I keep seeing this pop up in numerous threads. What exactly is infinity focusing?

Infinity is the distance beyond a given point. In the case of most lenses, infinity is the distance beyond ranged focus scale...usually 10-50 feet. In the most simplistic terms...a lens focused to infinity would be able to take an in focus image of anything from 50 feet to the stars and beyond. I'm sure that someone will share a more scholarly explanation.

Infinity is usually identified by the " " on the lens or in the camera settings under manual focus.

Infinity is just things that are far away. You can't really associate a number with infinity... is the symbol that you need to look for in the focus window.
