mk 1 on a 5D, hood retracted. Size is very close to (if not the same as) the current version.

Canon 5D 200L2 (external link) by resante (external link), on Flickr

Mk I and Mk II are identical except for the lens hood.

My Mk I is still for sale...

Hi All, After reading this thread I'm back to the drawing board. I was thinking of between the 7-200F4 Is or the 2.8II IS but looking at this I'm thinking a prime lol. Do you all miss the gap between 100-200mm? I have 10-22,24-105,100L macro. I love my macro as a walk around lens. I would like some reach so I would be getting a Kenko 1.4x with this lens. Would this addition cover all my focal lengths?

I bought the 200mm prime after reviewing the pictures I took with the 70-200 and found that I was using it mostly at either 200mm straight or around 70-100mm. My bag has a 85mm in it most of the time so the prime it was.

The thing I am not quite happy about is that it isn't weather-sealed when the 70-200s all are.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

Got my rented 200mm f2.8 today to try for a few weeks. I'm impressed with the sharpness from 100% crops so far. But my natural hand placement on the lens is right on the focus ring, so that'll take some getting used to. Can't wait to get out of the office so I can shoot something interesting.

I have never used a tripod with this lens mounted but I can test it later.

Doubt it. The 70-200 F4L Non is is not weather sealed, you can notice its not by the lack of rubber ring around the ef mount.

Theres other gaskets and stuff, but that the easiest way to spot a weather sealed lens vs not. I suppose one could always rubber band it when its on the camera for improved sealing but the other seals would still be missing in places you cannot see.

Turns out you are correct. Mine doesn't have the rubber ring after all. I must have had an image from another lens in my head. Sorry for the confusion.
