I sent my A70 off for repair in the UK after contacting canon through the UK website. They instructed me to take it to one of their approved repairers and said the repair would take approx 3 weeks. After 3 weeks and no camera I was told they were waiting for the part from canon and had no idea when it would arrive.

15 weeks later, and just before xmas I contacted the repairer to ask if there was any chance I would get my camera back before xmas. They sent an email back saying that canon no longer supplied the needed replacement part and as such they had authorised me with a replacement camera.

A few days before xmas I got my replacement.... A700!

All's well that ends well, as me old nan used to say!

Sure they didn't just stencil a zero on the end of the camera name? :{)# Definitely a positive outcome, then!

I believe Canon are doing these repairs globaly.
I know they are doing them here in NZ anyway.

Fortunatly neither my A40, or the A80 have had any problems yet.

YES , the A80 is on the list !!!!!!!!

My Canon Power Shot A70 displays problems such as the third picture posted at http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html (external link), with horizontal lines distorting the image, and usually over-exposed. The only way to take a photo in sunlight is to put my sunglasses in front of the camera lens! But even so, the image is rather fuzzy.
I live in Buenos Aires, which is hot at this time of year and has been very humid lately.
I have sent an e-mail to Canon, carecenter@cits.canon.com (external link), asking them whether I can expect Canon in Buenos Aires to repair my camera free of charge.

I finally sent my SD100 in for repair on Dec. 17th. Around a week ago I called Canon to see how the repair was coming along. They told me that they were waiting for a part, that there would be no charge, and that I should get my camera back sometime this week.

Well, the moment of truth (and the FedEx truck) arrived an hour and a half ago. They didn't repair my SD100... Instead they sent me a refurbished SD600. Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm thrilled with the new (to me) camera. The huge LCD is a really nice improvement, as are the increased resolution (6 megapixels instead of 3.2!) and zoom. Hooray!

My only issue is that the camera seems a little bit too loud when it takes pictures... It makes a very slight 'crunchy' sound when the lens extends or retracts, but it's the same noise every time, so it's probably okay, right? I hope the SD600 is just noisier than the SD100, but I'm still wary. I'll post again to let you know if this camera bites the dust, but so far so good.

Anyway, I'm very happy with Canon's customer service right now. :-) I wish they had sent me this camera a few weeks ago, but I'm extremely pleased with the way they handled the problem with my SD100. It was worth the wait. Hooray!

Got my camera back in a very timely manner, and the LCD problem is fixed...but...it won't save the date/time info, and it seems to take longer to focus, and it makes a few little noises that it didn't make before. I replaced the lithium battery, hoping this would at least solve the date/time problem, but that has had no effect -- apparently it's another issue, and not just a matter of the battery being dead.

I haven't contacted Canon about this yet -- but when I do, I hope they'll take care of it!

Just saw this thread (yeah, I know... no comment...) and will bring My A70 to the local Canon repair office, which is not to far from home. I'll see what will happen as they need to test it for the problem before attempting repairs. I recall about 20 shots that were showing lines in the LCD and on prints. Sometimes the LCD will flicker like mad... I'll see what will be the outcome and keep you posted.

Thanks for the heads up!

Dropped my A70 yesterday at the Canon Service center over here. The lady at the counter said it will take about 10-12 days to get my camera back! They will pay shipping and everything is done free, the test and the repair, if they found it to be at fault. I'll keep you posted.

My S230 got upgraded to an SD550.
They're even going to trade out my waterproof case.

Got back my A70. They changed the lens and performed a solder. The camera is well and alive! All this for free!

Sent in S1 IS and a month later recieve a call they were out of censor replacement parts and was asked if I would accept a refurbished S3 IS. I agreed and two days later was the proud owner of the S3 IS.

I took two photos and came to the realization the S1 IS was probably a dud out of the box.

How to start?
I live in Romania and I've started with A200, then A70 and finally 300D.
If you select Europe from Canon website and start looking for the "coverage" you will not find this country though if you come here you'll notice Canon advertising, and you'll find out that romanian people love Canon and that we have lovely mountains... and sea, and all the stuff especially for taking pictures.
Ok, what is the problem or should I say what are the problems?
My first Canon (A200) worked well for half year, then I've lost 2-3 months with Canon service, and finally got my money back.
My second Canon (A70) did it's job well for let's say an year then it started to do some nasty black screens and lines, the warranty is 1 year so, why should a product would work for another year as long as the warranty is only 1 year; should I be glad that I managed to take 1000-2000 pictures???
My third Canon (EOS 300D + a small "update" Sigma 70-300mm and a brand new hacked firmware because Canon didn't wanted to give these oportunities to me/us/whatever)... worked well for 4 days; I had to go again at allready known and almost friends from Canon service. They've replaced the battery.
I don't know what happened but I had no problems at all with my Canon printers, first was S200 and the last one I560.
If I may say, in my opinion, from now on should I buy only Canon printers and not buying Canon cameras? I'm asking because I'd like to buy a video camera, and I was thinking to buy a... Canon video camera. After these experiences you almost got me Canon, but from now on I'll say "No, thank you" because I allready paid the price with these products.
And btw years ago when I bought the cameras I've paid a heavy price on them because of our laws, things are different now.
Can I go to Canon service and give them the crapy A70, and get my money back as long as I bought another camera (300D)?
