I think one of my cameras may be having this problem. Do they ask you to send in the receipt or anything like that with the camera? I don't think I have it anymore.

I don't think so; some of the cameras on that list have been out of production for several years, so any warranty would have long since run out and they may have changed hands several times.

Wow, great thread, should have looked here before I posted my own thread:o sorry.

I've got a powershot A70 that seems to be having the same problems as afore mentioned. Here are some shots of my issue.

Contacted Canon through e-mail and will call them tomorrow. I will let you all know how this is resolved.

I have an A60 with this problem and can either send it to a local repair facility or to Canon Canada in Calgary. The local shop told me they want a $50 deposit that will be refunded if falls under the CCD advisory. I'm thinking I'd be better off mailing it to Calgary.

Does anyone have anecdotes that suggest sending to a Canon shop is better than to a local camera repair shop?

If the local shop gets it, they're just going to send it on to Canon for you, unless they're a Canon Authorized Repair Facility. Why not eliminate the middle man (and a couple of days) by sending it direct? Plus, if you send it to Canon yourself, you won't have to pay anything (other than shipping one way) unless it isn't under the service notice.

They are authorized. When I emailed Canon Canada, they said I had 3 choices. An authorized repair shop in Calgary, and authorized repair shop in my area, and Canada Canada in Calgary.

Then it's $50 which you may get back vs. whatever (nonrefundable) you'll pay UPS, Canada Post or FedEx to get it to the other two places.

Just as followup, I couriered it to Canon in Calgary and they shipped it back in 5 days, CCD replaced, cleaned and works like a charm.

Can't complain about that.

My Put on this subject; I recently had the LCD go out on my S1s and so as whim I called Canon and sure enough there was a service advisory on the problem. they instructed me to follow the directions on email that was being sent to me and so the next day I received a email from UPS with instructions to send camera to Canon. This done I received a email 4 days later saying they had received the camera and was going to fix it at no charge. A week later my camera shows up at my front door. I opened the box and to my surprise was a S3S with a letter explaining there were no parts to fix the S1S so they were sending me and upgrade. Now where I come from that is a sweet deal!! KUDOs to Canon for stepping up and accepting the cost and going after what matters in this world. Customer Satisfaction!

I just dropped off my old SD110 which started having the black/purple distorted images & lcd problem, at the UPS store.

I'm hoping for a refurbished newer camera.

I did everything via email and it was very easy.

Just got my repaired Powershot from Canon; I sent them an S1 IS, and they returned an S2 IS. That's a very nice upgrade. Wonderful service, no hassles at all; my wife is ecstatic. All at no charge to me, of course. And hello to Administrator Jon, whom I know from a couple of other technogeek boards. Larry

I got the package from Canon earlier this week. It was a little over a week turnaround time. Pretty good considering it included the Thanksgiving holiday.

Here's my beat up, scratched, dinged, and dented SD110. They accepted it with no questions asked. Click on the thumbnail if you want to see the big picture. If they accepted my camera, no one should be worried about having to pay for the repair.

...and here's the shiny new (refurbished) SD1000 that they sent me. :D

It's a really nice camera, but I don't think it will replace my SD700 with the image stabilization. But the SD1000 is so compact and perfect for a casual night out on the town slipped into a jeans pocket.

Here are some of the images from the faulty CCD on the old camera.

Hi ya all!

I am not sure if mine is the same. I own a A85, sometimes looking @ the pictures its kind of hazy or blurry on the view screen. Is this something I would be covered under w/ the recall?

Thanks
