Or, to give them their full title, Fulvous whistling ducks (Dendrocygna bicolor).

These were photographed at the local Wildfowl and Wetlands trust reserve (Martin Mere) where I met up with a bunch of other POTNers today, so expect a rush of duck shots over the next few days ;)

Martin Mere comprises a bird reserve alongside a wildfowl collection, although the majority of birds found at the centre are wild birds, there are some distinctly non-native varieties to be found there also, including these.

Well, that's the first duck shots I've posted on POTN, so I guess I'm a real member now ;)

Please feel free to C & C, all comments and opinions are welcome.

Nice series. Aside from wearing waders and spats, do they really whistle? ;)

The first to post - that is worth some sort of award! :)

Good to meet you today Sandpiper (Graham). Nice duck shots - #1 is my favourite.

Yep, they really whistle, but they don't seem to know any good tunes;)

They also like living in trees and nest way up in the branches.

Cheers Damian, good to meet you to. I think I had an unfair advantage with posting first, living so close to the centre I got home first :)

Oh well, back to the processing. More shots later.
