That sure is an impressive piece of glass you have to go with your camera and takes excellent bird shots, this bird is quite impressive in your shot Les with good detail and colour, well done.

It's a difficult question to answer, I think most modern DSLR's (with a good lens) are capable of images like this, especially the small file size needed for web.
The 1DS MKII comes into it's own in a couple of specific areas, the first and most obvious is if you want a large print, the 16.7mb sensor is capable of enlarging to A3+ without any problem.
The second (and not so obvious) is that the file holds so much detail, that I can pull back mid-tone and shadow detail without generating excessive noise, whereas a smaller pixel camera may do so. This is particularly important when getting whites in balance, I tend to expose for whites, consequently I'll have dark mid-tones/shadows, but I know I'll be able to retrieve these fairly comfortably.
