got this yesterday. He just looks so defiant. any suggestions would be appreciated. this is my second time trying to shoot birds.

Only suggestion would be to tweak white balance warmer if shot in raw and use the raw editor or photoshop's shadow/highlight tool to bring out some more of the black(shadow) detail. A fill flash might have helped. ---------------

What exactly did you do when you edited it this picture? I am just learning to use cs2. I was trying to get a little more detail on the front of the bird in the shadows so I went under Image--->adjustments--->Shadow/highlight. You can also play around with curves in the same menu. ---------------
