Canon S3 IS Image Stabilization not wokring

Dear friends,

I bought new Canon S3 IS and its very dissappointing to me that Image stabilizer is not working. Am I missing some setting? I just tried to take pictures but in steady image also its not clear. Pls help me to make my images clear. Attached is a sample image. taken in AUTO mode.

The image stabilisor can be switched on or off.

The image stabilisor does not guarantee rock-steady images. It merely reduces the amount of shake put into the image by the user. For example I took a 1/20th photo of a flower. One was with the stabilisor on. The other with it off. The stabilised image was great. Not so for the unstabilised.

What you have looks like a shot that was 1/2 second or more. Incidentally I like the photo - the flash has frozen the subject and the slight movement has blurred the background nicely.

I dont know how to switch image stabilizor on or off. Could you pls tell me so that I could check the setting at my end and see if it proper.

On my S1 IS it's a button to the left of the lens, on the front of the body labelled IS.
