Whew! First try? Horse racing shots just keep coming in better and better! Looks like a pretty overcast day to boot.

Thanks for the comments.I went with a friend who has done horse racing for quite a few years. He shoots with Canon film bodies. So he at least deserves a credit for helping me with settings and focusing etc.

You are right about the weather too. Not great light but I could easily reach decent shutter speeds using ISO 400 so I guess it could have been much worse.

I prefer cloudy over too much sun. Thank goodness for friend who know what they are doing. They sure have taught and shaped me! Look forward to more of your shots.

The important bits exif wise are

Both shots are 1/500 sec @ F4, ISO 400,Manual Mode , Manual Focus .

I took an exposure reading from the grass to give me 1/500 sec @ F4 and pre focused on the middle of the fence.

I also obviously had my 20d's Drive mode set to continuous.
