There's something alluring with those low pixel density CCD cameras. I'm in love with mine =)

Here is a facinating article from users of those first digital bodies (in this case nikons i think)
- http://www.robgalbraith.com …_page.asp?cid=7-6463-7191 (external link)

There are some genuine suprises -the low pixel count was far less of an issue than it sounds due to the fact that they didn't use AA filters, thus images straight from the camera were razor sharp.
I seriously considered buying one of these old things but around that time the 300D came out and changed everything :)
I know someone with one ,a DCS1 i think. He could barely give it away now.
The funny thing is that the camera body still has about a hundred thousand shots left in it

we paid $2600 for a D30 back in the day, the the d60, then the 10d blah blah. Our credit card bill is part of Canon digital history.

Ironically Kodak made the first digital camera back in the 70s. I still remember a news headline that said, Finally 800x600, quality for a 8x10 print.

There's actually an old Kodak pro digital camera of some sorts (it's pretty huge) for sale in the local pro camera store.. they want cost price for it (a couple of grand) - no way :p

I forget how many mpix it is but it was usable. Awful fps etc.

WOW great site. One thing really did surprise me though. I was surprised how little has changed from 1995 when the DCS1 was introduced and 2005 when the 30D was launched. Heck, they almost look the same and checking over the spec sheets, they are closer than I would have thought except for one thing, The price. $36,000 YIKES!!!

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

facinating article indeed. certainly is interesting to see how much and how quickly digital has evolved to the industry standard. i mean look at those bricks. they are the size of several bodies on top of eachother. but when you could beat out the guys with film and have your shots in a publication even a day before them, heck that was just too much to give up. now a days with film quickly becoming a dinosaur in general, and certainly long gone in PJ and reporting work, its amazing that it all happened over a period of about ten years, as have computers in an equal if not much moreso amount.

Can someone make a list off all the digital SLR cameras produced to date?
starting with the first and ending with the 30D. There is one for ya. :)

Consider this a challenge ;)

Here is one that I did a couple of months ago for a presentation that I was making. All the info is readily available at the Canon Camera museum site.

Thats awesome!!! What was your presentation for?

I never thought to look on DPreview...

Billginthekeys,

I am going to start shooting a club to where I would need 3 or 4 shooters. I wont be able to afford rentals or anything. We will be printing out 4X6 prints only using these.

I've used it twice now, once at a camera club meeting and I took on a part time teaching thing for marketing and business. Used it there to illustrate product cycle time lines. As much as I love photography I also love to study the business end of it as well. I spend a fair amount of time going over Canon's and Nikon's income statements for their shareholders. No (before anyone asks) I have not done one of these for the other guys.

id still try to find at least old D30. those old dinosaurs are probably going to be a whole lot more trouble than its worth. keep you eyes out and you should be able to pick up D30 and D60 bodies for under $300.
