I was invited to shoot this event by a new contact at Gophersports. It was my first time shooting an event like this, and my biggest killer of the day was the AF. I will hopefully be getting more opportunities to shoot for Gophersports, depending on how these photos appeal to them. C&C on composition and other tips would be helpful.

...there is no EXIF info available from these pics...

#3 is a great shot...you need lots of shots like #1 and #3 to choose from...the wide angle lens shots seem a little bit stressed from the very fast pace of the race...#2 takes up too much of the set of only 4 pics...you can tell the team's name from the jersey's, that might be enough, for name recognition...otherwise, all are great action shots...you might need to run over to different vantage points yourself, for more shots of the same runner....I bet no one else does it...(other than the coach.)

Thanks for the input John. As for the EXIF, it's one of my biggest pet peeves with smugmug - they only inlcude the EXIF embedded when linking the original size file, not the large. However, you can click on the photo and the EXIF info will be available on that page. I agree with your point that I need to steer clear of the wide angle shots, but I was shooting with a group of other photographers and the more experienced shooters were focusing on those types of shots and I was supposed to capture a more balanced group of photos including shots of coach-runner interaction and warmups. I was roaming around the golf course with another photographer in a golf cart, so we did have multiple opportunities to photograph the front of the pack as well as all of the Gopher runners.

Thanks again John for your input.

The wide angle lens shots are pretty good...wide angle shots are probably the best way to go for the group shots of runners...especially at the start, and the end of the race moments, at the finish line...

You captured the finish of the one runner very well, by showing the entire finish line, it shows that it was only he, alone crossing the line at that moment...
