The Canon 28-135mm IS USM lens is giving my 30D the Err99 Message. This is the only lens I have that errors out my 30D.

The lens is 2 years old and has never been dropped, I have over 15K snaps through it. What does the Err99 message mean and what can I do to try and fix it without sending it in.

Thanks!

45R

Err99 is a general "Unknown or unexpected error occurred". Before sending ther lens in, try cleaning the contacts on both lens and camera, and see that none of the contacts are recessed. You want to be sure they're all making good contact with the body.

I tried cleaning the lens contact today and installed the lens. It worked for 10 shots then I started getting the message again. The rest of my other lenses work perfect, even my Sigma fisheye. I'll try cleaning the contacts on the camera today also to see what happens. I'll advise this evening.

Everything makes a solid click when I attach it. Cleaning the contacts on the camera and lens did not work. Any other suggestions before I have to send it back to Mack Camera for a tune up?

I'm trying to rule out the camera also.

if you dont have any problems with other lenses on your camera, im sure its not the body. unfortunately you have have to send it in for service.
