I've got this shot here and I'm not sure which way around looks better. Bryan Pterson says in one of his books that the right hand side of the photo seems to work best if it's the most active.

I'm stuck on this one though. One way, it looks natural to me, but then I'm left-handed....

Interested to hear your views, and why.

The basic composition of the photo is confusing to me, regardless of the left-to-right or right-to-left sequence. I don't understand the out-of-focus thing in the black space (my first impression was that it looks like a lit-up old pay phone). That item (or group of items) does not seem to belong to the rest of the objects in the photo. Thus, the whole photo is just missing something to me. Maybe if you explained more about the photo and its concept I could be more helpful with my comments.

Ah.. so that's the problem... The messy lights is actually another building right in the background. Most probably it's bokeh'd far too much for it to be recognizable.

no preference either way. But I'd crop out the Coke machine in the back ground.

I much prefer the second one and I'm left handed. The first one just seems odd to my eyes.... It's like my brain won't process it as well as the second shot. Which one is flipped?

Either picture works fine...if you crop out the image to the edge of the railing in the foreground. The blur of the building is just a distraction that adds nothing to a potentially interesting shot.

Thanks Dan... I think before I was seeing the issue as an orientation issue - because I know that odd shape is a building, I know that it's a juxtaposition of the pots, but because the audience doesn't know what it is, it's just a mess.

I did take a more composed shot of the entire row of pots, but it turned out to be out of focus/camera shook, so a waste.

Interesting to see peoples view about the flip though.

I say left to right (most distant right) and I suspect that's because I'm right handed. It's the way I'd draw it someone described a line of pots disappearing off into the distance. Like I draw cars facing left and not right (side-on).

I voted to delete it. I don't know what it is, and honestly don't care...because it's not even remotely interesting.

Just my brutally honest 2 cents.

If I was forced to choose 1, I would choose the first. But seriously, I dont think those photos can hold my attention at all - seem far too busy with no theme.
