A long but worthwhile read

I picked up this link from photo news service that I subscribe to.

Be warned it is a long article. It deals with where certain parts of the photo industry is going with respect to getting assignments. It is interesting to say the least.

To sum it up: Nobody wants to pay the photographers. The evil doctors and dentists have nice cameras and produce semi-professional, client satisfying images undercutting the pros. There is lots of them.

Stock photography is evil. There's a new business model making photographers compete for assignments without covering the expenses. Only one out of five photogrpahers is actually getting paid.

To fight the trend:

1. Diversify your client base
   
2. Say no to bad clients
   
3. Be informed
   
4. Get involved and educate fellow photographers
   
5. Produce high quality works, setting yourself on a higher level
   
6. Do no sign away the copyright
   
7. Register your images
