Digital Camera Sounds ...

Hi,

I'm just curious... anybody uses the sounds on his digital camera, like the 'shutter noise' when you press the shutter button, the beeps and clicks in the menus, or when pressing some button, etc?
As on some cameras you can even use custom sounds, does anybody make sounds himself?

For my part, these are the first functions I disable when buying a new cam.
I find it also really annoying when visiting some building (like a church) and when I hear everywhere this 'beep-beep' while everybody tries to focus at infinity while shooting the ceiling same 30 meters away.

I turn all sounds off except for the shutter. It lets me know when I accidentally snap off one I didn't want, like when I hold the shutter release down too long. Not such a big deal when I do, but I like to delete it right away, rather than have it take up space on my CF card.... plus, I kind of like that sound

I turned them all off... (the 10D??? Did it have sounds I turned off? I don't remenber) I turned off the shutter noise etc.. on the S400 as well.

I like to be "stealthy"

I leave all the sound on my Canon G3 on. But I turned down the volume.

Camera Sounds ... pros don't use them

IF you think a cell phone going off at the wrong time is costly ... wait until you forget to turn OFF the sounds on your camera.

Bottom line on camera sounds: other than use of the shutter-sound (kept low and soft), the use of the 'sounds' on many digital cameras show a distinct level of amateurism . If that's your level and where you wish to be viewed .. fine. If not, then turn off the sounds.

Can you disable the sound of the shutter on a 10D?????

On the 10D the it is a real shutter making real noise!

I was trying to rememebr of the 10D had any beeps... but I really don't think so,. if so I turned them off day one and never considered them again.

The S400 beeps AND has a "fake" shutter sound recording!

Employing the sounds on the camera can be fun in "some" situations. Using a strange sound on the self timer can help get interesting shots from some subjects.

Good Point 'stopbath', however in such a case the sound we be 'set for the shot' .. not running in a-default-mode; aka, 'blink'

All of technology has its good and bads .. just like the smiley icons.:o Used too much and they either no longer hold the intended meaning or just become obnoxious ..

Ask yourself, these two questions:

1) Would Ansel Adams have used the 'sound generator' on his digital camera? (NOTE: don't be too hasty to say he'd not have used a digital - I knew him - and think he'd have loved it!) and

2) Would Hemmingway have used emoticons in his email? No, I didn't know him, but I have some reservations about whether he'd have used email at all - my take is, "Not on your life!"

Then again, Andy Warhol would have not only have used the sound generator on his camera - but, he'd have wired it to surround sound, right along side the mega-section-plasma-screen-panoramic-side-show, blasting out, nothing but emoticons! However, many would also question his 'professionalism'... period.

And in such light and on-that-note - professionalism is NOT - unfortunately - required to gain attention or make beaucoup 'o $$. Does SuperBowl come to mind

Therefore, it is my contention, that all who aspire to professional standards - in their respective arenas - should do so with the utmost care and attention to keep the 'bar high' and expectation even higher. When we lower the 'bar', we also lower everything. Including the $$ level we seek to earn for our efforts.

Just a view from the 'ridge of 35+ years' of climbing and observing across several 'mountain ranges'. FWIW.
