Hey all...

I shoot mostly portraits on a Canon 20D (backup camera is a Canon 10D)...

Well, I would not like to choose amongst them. I love the three of them for different reasons.

However, for portraits on a crop camera the 50 f1.4 and 85 f1.8 may give you everything you need.

Canon EOS 5D, 20D
Canon 35 f1.4L, 50 f1.4, 85 f1.8, 135 f2L,
17-40 f4L, 24-70 f2.8L, 70-200 f2.8L IS

The 50mm f1.4 is so boring that I would go for the 135 L if it were me. BUT I wouldn't go for any of those because I am after the 180 L macro lens so I guess I am not much help.

I have both the 50 and 85 and don't find myself wishing I had a 135mm lens for portraiture. On a full frame I probably would.

If I could do it all over again I'd probably go for the Sigma 30 1.4 and Canon 85 1.8.
That's not to slight the 50 1.4, it's my sharpest lens, but I'm not a fan of the FOV.
