do it yourself. who knows where they will send it and how much they will charge. this is a routine performance that takes a very short amount of time, and is very easy to do.

its not a 1 time thing, you will continually need to do this. If it helps, there is a thin piece of glass over the sensor, you aren't actually cleaning the individual pixels

Hello,

A local shop in Atlanta, GA (USA) charges $55. They do it locally, but the guy who does the work is only there a few hours a week, so when he shows up you pretty much have to wait in line.

I've not tried him yet, so I can't comment on how well he does, but it seems to be a popular service.

I'm thinking about investing $140 at B&H for a Visible Dust kit. Seems pretty fool-proof. The only problem is that we have 1.6x, 1.3x, and soon, 1.0x crop factor bodies. I don't really want to buy different kits for each body.

Anyone had experience using the 1.6x Visible Dust kit on a larger sensor? What's the downside (besides having to do multiple passes)?

Listen to coreypolis ... he speaketh the truth ...

Do you have a Rocket blower, and have you been following the cleaning instructions in your 30D manual? A Rocket blower only costs $10 and you can clean your sensor at least a thousand times with it if you like. And the time it takes per cleaning is about two minutes.

This topic has been covered well on this forum, and very well on the dpreview.com forum. There is a very good thread over there with a post by Jim H.

Cleaning the sensor filter is no more difficult than changing lenses. It takes me no more than five minutes for a "wet cleaning".

With all due respect to previous posters, a blower may take some stuff off, but inevitably some "dust" will stick, and will require "wet cleaning". In six weeks, I've wet cleaned four or five times.

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

From this post and what I have asked my photographer friends, take Bob's advice. I will be...btw, how often do we have to clean the Canon Digital Rebel? Is there a specific time frame (like every 3 mos? or every 500 shots? or just whenever there are black specks on the pictures?) Sorry ,I am new to digital photography(but have learned a lot from this website as well!)

I would never pay someone to clean my sensor when I can do it myself in 15 minutes. The process is so simple "even a caveman can do it"....

I clean mine whenever I see a few specks in images and it becomes a chore to clone them out in Photoshop. Keep in mind that even with a moderately dirty sensor you're not even going to notice dust until you stop down past f/11. Typically you'll see spots in the sky when shooting at f/16 or f/22.

I only clean my sensor 3 or 4 times a year.
