We have been taken over by ring necked parakeets recently and thought I would get a photo of them. Also I quite liked the picture of the Blue Tit so have included it here.
Camera used a canon 10d and for the parakeet pic I used a 100-400 is usm, the blue tit was taken with the same body but using a 300mm Is and a 2x convertor. Steve

Nice shots. You have wild parakeets flying around over there? Thought it would be too cold for them. :)

They are doing extremely well in the UK - huge flocks of them - they seemed to have climatised over the years and its not unusual to see flocks of them, either going to or coming from their daytime place and back to where they roost (and hear them lol).

It has been reported in my local paper that a roost of around 30,000 parakeets have left their regular haunt in Epsom and have now been in and around where I live in Ashford for the last couple of weeks. These birds do survive our winters and many blame them for the decline in our smaller native birds. Since their arrival a couple of weeks ago I havent seen any of the various finches that usually feed at my feeding station, Steve

Where I grew up, Northern Illinois with tree killing winter cold, we normally never see them wild. As a kid, one summer, I did see a swarm of them near our house for a day or two and thought the pet store truck had had an accident. But they only stayed a few days and never came back. :)
