So, I get off work and get a crazy attack of energy decide to ditch out of the doctors appointment and run the kit to the post office and off to washington... and then I see this mountain.. i've seen it before but wasn't sure how to shoot it while staying on the main roads without all of the icky town stuff in the foreground.. So, on a lark I decide to take a left.. and it turns out pretty well.. up the mountain a bit and come across this old boarded up school house.. (photos to follow).. and a very nice clear view of the mountain with some of my favorite red trees... just pretty.. and then there's a barn up ahead so, off I go... but still on nice road although a little on the icy side.. but not terrible.... and there just seemed to be a nice spot just a little bit up ahead.. and so a couple of miles up ahead I hear it... driving over snow covered cattle guard... oops.. road is now more than a little icy and pretty narrow and i've just gotten myself into open range up on the mountain side... Anyway, I'm thinking this can't be good.. this won't be good.. thank god my uncles aren't here to yell at me.. But, there I am and it's really pretty.. I mean really pretty so I take a few photos actually comes through my mind that i'm glad I got up here now and not in a few weeks when I wouldn't have a prayer of getting back down... So, the tire get's a little bit stuck... just a bit.. didn't look nearly as bad as leslie Gulch.. and luckily there was all kinds of branches and such to help get me unstuck... but my poor snow boots did not deserve the battering they got today.. and my little car probably needs a foster home... it might not survive long enough for me to use up the warranty at the rate i'm going... But, in defense to me it has been a long time since i've gotten myself into one of these little hiccups.. and I have a serious suspision that the photos will be worth it... alteast that's what I told myself as i'm gathering branches in two feet of snow on the side of the open range mountain with the pretty view...

i'm slow tonight.. or rather my computer is slow... i've started downloading the last couple of months onto my external and taking some stuff off that doesn't need to be there.. but, i'm also doing RAW conversions as I type so depending on how much sleep I decide I need will tell me whether to finish some tonight or tomorow.. but either way.. there will be photos.. I promise.

Wut Ah Tease!!!!

don't worry too much I always deliver.. okay, now that i'm home I'm re-thinking the whole afternoon.. in general everything after the old school house was probably unnecessary and I should learn when to call it a day... yes. definately.. My aunt made me promise no unpaved roads last year and I did a wonderful job of staying to my word.. but, as a result started shooting people instead of landscapes and now that i'm a couple hours away from home suddenly starting to feel like maybe I should take myself up to the hotsprings to get a shot of the steam coming off the snow.. at around sunset... but.. then I remember there's a lot of snow up there.... and my car isn't made for it... and i'm by myself.. and phones don't work.... But, then the composition idea takes over again and I think.. i'll go at the end of the day.. make sure it hasn't been storming for a couple of days.. tell my buddy Ryan where i'm going..... it will be fine... or maybe i'm just getting restless again and want to stretch a bit... hmm... I do think I got some nice photos.. kind of wish I hadn't sent them to my external HD though.. taking forever..

Beautiful shot.

As there are many of us here who have become attached to your photos and your presence, please tell us that your little car at the very least has an emergency kit of some kind in the event that those snow covered roads out of cel range prove a little more difficult to travel on next time. Or at least tell us that it will have one soon.

Sari:

Ya gotta get something like this! If you keep pushing it your going to get caught and the winter in the mountains can be deadly.

You also need a shovel and an ax (or hatchet), chains are also great.

The picture is lovely tho..... :)

Sari..... very nice. Would love to be out there; may be many more years before I see snow again. Last time I did was with a P&S.

The flame red trees lend a lot to the shot, normally all you'd expect to see is green. And there is a little house hidden there...

I have a car blanket and a first aid kit in my trunk along with bottled water.. I really do have enough sense to stay home when it's really bad.. I just kind of wandered a little too much yesterday.. and thanks for the kid words about my photo.. I went through a little bit of an ordeal to get home with that photo...

Well, it was worth it :)

Sometimes the "one keeper" is what makes the entire expedition worthwhile. I drove 9 hours one day, backed car into something I shouldn't have (very tired and unable to see a low wall while reversing) and left really nasty looking scratches on the bumper, I got ONE magnificent keeper frame out of the whole lot.. at least it helps ease the pain
