Not that I plan on selling any of my SLR gear... I just love it too much... :p

But just for the fun of it, I wanted to ask the question.:D

Would any of you be happy to stop this madness of never ending gear purchases by just selling all your camera gear. And setteling down with one of these only...

Leica D-LUX 3, 10.0 Megapixel, 4x Optical/4x Digital Zoom, Digital Camera (Black)
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …SA&addedTroughType=search (external link)

I plan on buying on to use as my point and shoot, but I cant say the thought of selling hasnt crossed my mind.

For a point and shoot, I find the above camera.. VERY Impressive.

I hate to rain on your parade but that P&S is actually a Panasonic. Leica entered into a branding deal with Panasonic that allows them to use the Leica badge. The claim is that Leica engineers have QA'd the Panasonic construction process and declared it up to scratch. Same as the Sony/Zeiss tie-in. If you want a digital Leica your only options are the DMR or the M8.

I just ordered the Panasonic Lumix L1. The extra $600 for the Leica software seems a bit to rich for me.

I plan to upgrade the L1 with the Leica firmware for better colour they reported over the Lumix software.
Just will not have the red logo!

Looking at this camera and it’s price, only one word comes to mind: Snobbery..

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

You may pry my ultrawide from my cold, dead hands. I can never be happy again with a P&S for one simple reason: 17mm full frame equivalent (10mm on APS-C). I want my 105 degree rectilinear FOV - however they get it done I don't care as long as the quality is there....

But is it really point and shoot? I bought a Digilux-1 when they came out for the same purpose. I thought it would be small enough to carry all the time. Carrying it around was like carrying a DSLR with a walkaround lens unfortunately. My latest move is with a 5D as my main camera and a Kodak Easyshare V705 for carrying in my pocket. It works. Not the same sex appeal as the little Red dot but it's there when I need it. The Leica was usually left sitting by the door.

I am well aware of its Panasonic counter part... My lfriend owns the Panasonic version... Which is what got me intrested in the Leica version.

If you read the online reviews, Panasonic software was too agressive in the proessing of its colors and edges.

The Leica software actually provides true to life color as well as more post processing options and better jpg images throught software.

I didnt know you could load Leica firmware onto the Panasonic!

Im going to look into this. Its not the Leica brand name I care about, its the Leica lens which got me intrested in this camera.

You never see a point and shoot with a lens like that.

How about the PRO-1 with a Canon 'L' lens?

I think that statement isnt accurate. If you look at canons high end digitals, like the SD900 and SD800, with IS.

And you compare the two, then factor in the lens. Its pretty much up to par...

Althought I do admit, just like sony, you are paying about $100 for the Leica Name over the Panasonic... But the Leica software is also better in processing than the Panasonic.

Regardless, Its a nice point and shoot, but its also expencive.

Id assume dSLR users can apreicate a quality lens on a Point and Shoot vs the norm.

Thats also a sweet camera. I like this camera a lot because it gives me a hot shoe for external flash =)

It is a little on the large size. =)
