After considerable rumination, thought, umming and ahing I've finally decided on my first purchases away from my kit lenses and after weeks of reading every thread on every lens I've plumped for the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM and the Canon EF100 2.8 USM Macro.

I've now got two further problems,

I've got to wait until Monday for them to arrive

and secondly "What lens next"

Mark:) :)

Great choices. I've been using my 24-105 for several weeks now and am very pleased. I'm not sure it will come off my 5D for quite a while.

Hi,

Congrats...I have the 100MM f/2.8 Macro and it is a great purchase. It takes great portriats as well as the Macro shots.

I have no experience with the IS lens you chose but by reputation it is a fine purchase as well.

Send some sample shots when you have them :)

Jim -- I keep the Leica D-Lux 7 in the Glove Box just in case!

I would have thought that the two fine lenses you are getting (congrats!) would have satisified just about any addiction for more (MORE) glass! Wow - have a good time with the lenses and be sure to post some glorious images!

I've half of those two and the 100mm macro is a great lens and I'm going to take the plunge this week and get the 24-105 :)
