I know these need a lot more improvements, but things were not as bad as I thought they were and I would like to say thanks to everybody. Even though you might think you're simply answering a post made by a totally stranger who could be other the other side of the glabe, but all of your kind words helped alot in the progess. Happing shooting.

Hi, first and formal I would like to introduce myself since it’s my first post on this forum. I’m Vince, a 24 years old drafter and Mech E major. That’s about all, I’m pretty boring :o .
My Rebel XTi is going to be here today and I’m way nervous than I should be. I guess I’m just worrying about being disappointed, I’ve seen so many good pictures takien by this camera thus I have great expectations for it, but I realize it’s not just the camera, but it’s also the user and the PP process. So I’ve been reading as much as I can so I can be ready for it. Has anybody been in this stage before?

yup I found the 5D scary too

I don't mean to rain on your parade but I wanted to share my experiences with the Rebel XT.

I have had it for approximately 3 months and I have learned a great deal about photography and DSLRs. I love the control that a DSLR gives me and I exclusively am in aperture priority or in manual. I frequently use manual focus and the histogram post picture view is essential.

This leads me to the problems I have encountered with the Rebel XT, and for the most part these apply to the XTi. First the viewfinder is extremely small when compared to the 30D or 5D. This makes it very difficult to manually focus because you cannot see enough detail to tell if what you want is actually in focus. Additionally the Rebels have no focus screen on the mirror which greatly helps in achieving correct manual focus. Secondly, the display is too small. When in histogram display mode your image is practically the size of a stamp. Fortunately the XTi remedies this with a bigger display. My last big gripe is the size of the Rebels. Without the battery grip attached they are almost unusable. The 30D and up, just feel better in my hand.

If I could go back in time I would have spent the extra money and gotten the 30D instead. At the time I got the XT I just didn't know enough to know that I would want the 30D or better.

Anyway I just wanted to put that out there. I know someone might read this and realize that the things I mentioned might be a problem for them too.

For having the camera only a week, you are doing well. I like the second shot (minus the writing) the best. It shows good control of depth of field. I also like the reflection shot.

Please excuse me here, but I don't know that much about cars (it's all cameras for me :)). With the car shot, it would have looked better if you had focused on the part of the engine block (?) closest to you. It looks like you used the centre focus point, and focused on those pipes at the centre of the picture. If you can, try to switch to a focus point closest to where I said and retake the shot (or for next time).

None the less, good photos for a beginner.

Andrew.

The learning curve is high, but that's just part of the fun. You'll be amazed at how much your photography will improve in just a year's time by simply practicing.

Enjoy the new camera!

My main gripe with the 400D is the fact that the viewfinder is damn small. More a problem when trying to frame things and make sure the camera is level.
