Yup, those amazing photos you see here with those great lenses aren't just the lenses, it's the photographer too, haha.

Oh i agree. and i really wish we had more sunlight in the UK to get better shots. The only time i have brought a lens is for what it can offer, never based on what i see on line. for every shot you see there would maybe half a dozen different lens's that could have taken it.
and of course there is PP to make it even better.
No, for me the 24-105L was an almost perfect FL for everyday use and it had IS for lowlght shots so i felt the money was well spent (i never let on to the family though;-)a

update time
I have been playing around more with the 30mm and its staying, at least for the weekend. in fact this weekend is the main reason im deliberating so if it preforms fine for a nightclub gig, a few hours in the pub (im working so wont be getting drunk, just fooling around) and a birthday party on sunday ill keep it.
Im not expecting it to be fantastic, just better than my 35mm and if i make the effort to get the camera settings right ill expect the lens to get the focus right. if not ill take it back and get the 50mm on monday. i still have the 35mm so i can always take the 50mm and 35mm out. the 35mm is so small it fits in my jacket pocket. in fact one of the reasons i got it was that my 350D with this lens would fit in a jacket pocket.
thanks for all the advice and comments

Dave_bass5, the Sigma 30 is one fine lens. I've had it for about 4 months and it's a keeper. For available light, all I can say is wow. Look at the link below (NASA Houston) for an image indoors with no flash.

Yes, that is a very good, clear shot.
If i do keep the Sigma ill need to make sure its as good as my old one.
This was taken last year with my 350D at f/1.4.
I have the exif so ill try and recreate this tonight.

Final update

Well i was happy with the sigma for a while. i have some good shots from it and cant really fault it but........30mm seemed a bit wide for me. i found i was cropping out too much of the shot in PP and so decided i might as well get the 50mm back and crop less.
Im sure the Sigma would have been more use but at the back of my mind i didnt trust it. paranoid yes, but now im happy.
I have decided to keep my 35mm f/2.0 as it goes nicely with the 50mm. both being small i can take both out with me so i have wider if i need it so i dont think ill miss the Sigma.
Thanks again to all.
