I never take it off. Fits my hand better with it on and the camera feels better balanced.

I think I've taken it off once, but I don't remember why. I just put it right back on and haven't messed with it since. As for weight, I've carried it around with the 100-400L enough that it feels light with anything else on it.

Always on.......hauled it around Disney for 3 days....never a problem and it is impressive to amateurs and professionals alike. Even one of the Disney photogs comented on my outfit.

I'd agree with an earlier post - try the grip before you buy it. For me, if you're holding the camera properly (i.e. supporting the weight with the left hand) there is no problem with 'balance' even on a light body such as the 350/400D. And yes, I have large hands! In that case, you're just adding weight for no reason (unless, of course, you are using portrait orientation a lot).

While I understand that some people love the grips, it would be silly to spend the money without knowing if you will see any benefit.

used once without the grip, found i preffered the balance with the grip, weights not a problem. Steve

No sense taking off the grip...it doesn't add that much weight and makes the camera much easier to hold and operate.
