I never take it off. Fits my hand better with it on and the camera feels better balanced.

For me, if you're holding the camera properly (i.e. supporting the weight with the left hand) there is no problem with 'balance' even on a light body such as the 350/400D. And yes, I have large hands! In that case, you're just adding weight for no reason (unless, of course, you are using portrait orientation a lot). Graeme
