I placed the order this morning. I ordered the 17-40, 50mm 1.4, and a Bogen/Manfrotto Tripod (the 3021Pro with the 488RC2 midi ball head). I think I am really going to enjoy these new toys. I cannot wait for 3-5 days to pass, haha.

Nov 16, 2006 18:49 | #17 i own those two, they were my first and only purchase after the kit lens, they are superb performers, i think its wise to go for a fast prime to get those shots the 17-40 would not get in low light at f4.

They got to my city, not 20 miles from my house this morning at 5:29, BUT UPS does not deliver, nor let you pick up, on Saturday or Sunday! So, my lenses and tripod are not even 20 miles from my house and I have to wait 2 days to get them, this sucks, lol. "A good photograph is knowing where to stand." -Ansel Adams

So yeah your choice is a very good one and optically it can't be much better then anything. Both lenses are wonderful! the 16-35 is only better in that it is faster, but at 17mm the f4 zoom has a distinct edge on resolution , but the f2.8 lens is better at 35mm end. So I would not say that the 16-35 is better, only faster Veni, Vidi, Snappi
