IS is a blessing when you have to shoot animals hiding in the shadow or the shade, when even ISO 1600 will only bring your shutter speed up to 1/200. Lighter weight helps a lot. Push pull is no problem at all as long as you get used to locking and unlocking the tension ring. And full time manual focus is wonderful, I used it a lot when AF missed and locked onto grass in front of the subject.
