Sent my sigma 120-300 to SigmaUK and they sent test shots to Japan. They say definition problems and the len has to be sent to them so around 6-8 week turnaround... I bought the lens off ebay (silly me:cry: ) so it's chargeable work and not guaranteed.

How would you define definition problems? whats it mean..

On a good note.. The chap at Sigma UK (Daniel) is very helpfull.. phones when he says he will and seems to be doing his best... real impressive customer service from him :)

I would say that 'definition problems' is techspeak for 'not sharp', or perhaps 'we don't have an answer so will let the factory sort it out'.

What was the problem that caused you to send it in to begin with?

The problem was that the 120-300 pics where not as good as the 70-200 .. i thought slightly backfocusing because other areas where sharp.. it wasnt a case of the whole pic not sharp..

Its easy to say the problem experienced is what defnition means as thats why I sent it so that must be the answer:) But I was looking to see if anyone else had this problem before me.. knew what it invloves and how it happens.

I would guess "definition problem" is a catch all phrase for "photos look like crap",:) meant to describe the symptom, not the problem. The true root cause (element mis-alignment, improper grind, etc.) probably can't be determined until the lens is examined by the technicians.

Mine had (hopefully past tense) the same definition problem I guess. I sent it in to Sigma US. They looked it over and found that it was backfocusing and replaced the autofocus unit. They had to wait 2 weeks for the part to arrive from Japan. Maybe Sigma UK is not able to perform that work, so they had to send to Japan.

Mine will be back today so hopefully it is working well.

Thought I would also mention, I work at a Japanese company and I can tell you firsthand that the translations don't always make sense. Maybe it is just something in the translation.

Sigma US sent me a loaner 120-300 while they had mine. All I can say is it was awesome. You won't be disappointed in a properly working one!

Goodluck,
