That after 18 months with the 350D it is time to graduate to a better body. I have found that while trying to photo soccer that the 3 FPS leaves me missing to many shots and the slow AF gives me too many OOF shots.

I am tempted by the 30D but may be willing to wait for the nest body to come out or go for a PRO style body.

Any advice?

A used 1D MK2 might be an option. :)

Really nice 1D MkII can be had for $2200-$2400. I'm kinda looking at the 1D, seems one can be picked up for $1100-$1200 in mint condition.

What are the major differences in the 1D's. I have noticed alot of different types of 1D's, but dont understand the differences...alos, when the new 1D comes out (if ever) would it be correct in assuming the the older version of the 1D's will drop in price?

depends on what you need, you could get the used 1D for the price of a brand new 5D, or save money and get the 30D and a new lens. I'd go with the cheaper camera and new glass.

The real issues are, how much cash do you want to spend, and is the 8.5 fps worth the loss of some of the crop factor - less reach?

I'd love a 1dIIN - they are superb cameras - but I certainly don't need one. I'd love a 5D too - but the camera I really really want is a full-frame digital version of the eos 3. with 5 fps.

I'm with Steve on this one. Seems to me that finances are the primary driving force here. If money isn't an issue then I'd pony up and get the higher end camera that hits the aspect you're seeking (faster fps).

I know for me and my skill level and needs, I would like the 30d... however I'm willing to wait and see if anything comes out in the spring as far as an upgrade is concerned...then get the 30d on discount!;)

Cheers,
LeBaron

Dude, went I set my 30D on 5FPS, I was like WHOA! Try one out if you can, but you can afford it why not get both a 1D body and a newer, faster lens?
