What filters do you use most often on your lenses and why? I don't really know much about filters though I think I would like to try a polarizer once in a while for deep blue skies.

I use no filters. For protection I use the lens cap alone. I take off the lens cap when I am going to shoot, and then replace. I also have been thinking about getting a polarizer mainly because I miss the nice deep blue skies that seem so hard to capture with the Canon. Maybe Santa got my hint and I’ll see a Hoya 58 and 72 in my stocking.:D

i use a polarizer when i do landscape or when i want to reduce glare from windows and shining objects. i use a UV filter when i shoot on the beach or other places where i know my lens can be sprayed with water/sand/snow etc...

for the other 99% of the time, i use no filters at all, just hoods.

I just use a UV filter for protection purposes only on most of my lenses. I guess you can get nit picky about image quality degradation but for the most part theres no loss of image quality if you get a good one.

i tried polarizers before, not all skies will turn out deep blue.

I have a UV on every lens that will accept one, and enough circular polarizers to fit every filter size that I have. Most of my UVs are B+W F-Pro, and I use Hoya Pro-1s on the wide angle lenses.

Have Fun,

Rick

Circular Polarizers for sunny days and anti-reflections. Neutral Density Filters for waterfalls and other waterways (slow shutter speeds)

I never use filters. I buy good quality lenses and think that that filters will only degrade the IQ. I'm thinking about a CPL filter but only for the outcome of the image not protection. I've never had an instance when a filter would protect my lens and believe that they are a false economy if used for protection only.

I use, on occation, a CP if I have problems with glare. I also have a UV filter to use under extraordinary conditions for protection, although I can't recall the last time I use an UV filter.

Good UV always on any lens that'll accept it since I commonly venture into less-than-lens-friendly conditions. Polarizer and ND grads as needed.

Circular Polariser and ND grads are the only ones I really use.
I do have a couple of UV's (or Skylight, can't remember) for inclement weather or down on the seafront etc.

I use a polarizer or circular polarizer allot in my scenic and landscape work. I have a selection of 3 ND filters for when I really want to slow down the shutter speed or be able to use a wider aperture.

I will use UV filters when I am out in the field shooting. I had an incident once where my 24-70 fell out of my jacket and landed on the sidewalk. It hit right on the corner of the lens front. Fortunately all I had to do was replace the filter. I have had to replace a couple of filters due to scratches and misc. damage. Better this than the front element. If I am shooting in a more controlled environment, the UV's come off the lens.

I have a few other misc filters that get used sparingly such as DIY star filter, some colored filters for shooting B&W (predominantly film) and I know there are some others that I just can't recall at this moment.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.
