Hi all,
I've been around these forums a while and have learned sooo much. I've been wanting a DSLR for a long time and I had my heart set on a 20D. Well, as of this moment I am the proud owner of a lightly used 20D. I will be getting a 50mm f1.4 as soon as my Pro1 sells so I can actually use the 20D, but I am loving it so far. I had the chanse to hold an XT this past weekend and I was a little worried because it was small and I have big hands, but the 20D fits perfectly. I can't wait to try it out. I may not be able to get a duck, but I'll post the first decent thing I get when I do have a lens. I feel like the winds are changing...

Congrats on the 20D - so is what you are saying is that you have a DSLR body but no lens to attach to it at this point? Yikes - go rent or borrow one and get shooting! There has to be someone you know locally that has an EF lens you can use for a while. It would drive me nuts to have a body only for any period of time.

Yeah, no lens, and the one guy I do know who has a DSLR has a Nikon...

go buy a 50mm 1.8, less than $100 bux and actually a really decent learning lens.

Congrats on your new acquisition, the 50 1.8 is a great lens, but if your heart wants the 50 1.4, go for it.

That would be killing me to have my first DSLR and no lens to shoot with! Even a used kit lens would be better than no lens.

As has been mentioned - you can pick up a 50mm f1.8 or the 18-55 kit lens for around $60-$80 in buy and sell forums - including the one here at POTN. These are not bad lenses and at least you could being using your new tool.

Kit lenses are good enough lenses for the money, and it takes a much better picture than no lens at all.

I couldn't bear to be in the position of having a lensless camera. You are either really strong minded, or got really caught short!

But for general use the 50 1.4 is TOO LONG! It is a portrait lens on the crop cameras. You need a zoom, and I'd suggest looking at the Tamron/ sigma/ Tokina 16/17/18-50/55 f/2.8 lenses - they are about the same money and will be far more versatile.

I would go for one of those but even the $300 for the 50mm f1.4 is pushing it. And that $300 is assuming I can sell my Pro1. I guess I could settle for a 18-55mm kit, but I want something a little faster and better quality (hence the f1.4 over the f1.8). I might be able to get a 28-70mm Sigma f2.8 if I can find the funds. Right now its all about the funds...

I guess I could wait on an A700 and use that for a lens.
