New Mac Laptops?

Any predictions when Apple will release new Mac laptops? I'm interested in maybe something like a Macbook Pro (macbook seems too small for any high res photo work), but I figured they've been out for like 3/4 of a year or so now, that I may as well wait for the 2nd generation (what I was planning to do a year ago anyway.)

So what do you guys think? January 07? Q1 07? Q2 07? etc.

BTW, I just began using Lightroom and just watched some videos about Apple Aperture. Anybody use both, and if so, which do you prefer and why?

I'm hoping they come out with a new MacBook with the same form factor as the old 12" iBook.

When was this? I didn't hear about it, haha. Is the only difference the change in CPU? Should I make a purchase soon instead of holding out for an new laptop?

I remember promotions with free iPods and stuff when you buy a laptop. Do you guys think a promotion like that will happen soon? I checked the site and didn't see anything on now.

i would. the new macbook pros are great as it is so they only got better with the duo processor. also, i find that there is no point in always waiting for the next big thing, you miss out on all the fun. i still use the G4 powerbook and it does the job just fine but i will replace it very soon with the new iMac because i want a desktop.

that was an academic promotion, and it happened when going back to school did, its not an every day occurance. i would still wait for CS3 to come out.

Yup, I think I might wait for CS3 as CS2 is going to be laggy compared to CS3 on the Macbooks anyway.
I thought Apple had promotions all the time like Dell does though?? Considering Christmas is coming up I'de expect something.
Man, I want to add a Mac desktop to my setup too, but I don't want to add another monitor (I'de like to get a nice 30" Dell or professional Eizo or something and use a KVM for both.) I always loved the Mac Mini, but it's GPU always left me with the "yeah, this isn't for me" thought. If the next generation has a good GPU and can handle some intensive photo work, then I think I'll pick one up. The Imacs also tempt me, but I dunno, I wish the Apple Store was like a camera store where you can walk in and get an amazing deal if you spend lots of $ and buy a few things.

i seriously thought about it but finally decided against it. i already have a 20" widescreen so i think that going with the 20" iMac will be a much better setup (mmmm... duel 20").

Can you use the iMac's screens as a screen for a stand alone computer? What I'm really asking is if there are VGA/DVI inputs on the iMac.

not sure but why would you want to do it. are you adding a windows machine and want to use the iMac as the screen to both systems?

Yep, essentially that. I have a dell 20" now. On the flip side, does it have dvi or vga out, so I could use my Dell monitor with it for some dual screen work?

me in the apple store can be a dangerous thing. i bought two macbooks for people during the promotion this summer haha. went with a dell myself though. the only one of the rebates they caught me on (doing twice) was the free nano, but it was $100 so woopiody do, i still saved like $500 on each system, and got the free printers with each (one of which is right next to me here for document printing, and my current ipod i got with it). nothing like getting something for nothing.. especially when something is a printer and ipod.
