Well, the 1Ds does shoot fast. Maybe he was making a movie. Lets see, 700,000 frames at 30 frames a second = 23,333 seconds of video. Well that’s only 389 minutes. That’s not that long.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Of course, that means he has a 980 gig CF card assuming that he shot at the lowest resolution and 8,000 gig if he shot raw. What the heck is 8,000 gig anyway 8 tera?

1. Doubtful it has 70K
2. Too many software hackers out there and this would be a major scandal.
3. Why would Canon do it? Makes no sense. Only one camera out of what... a hundred thousand would reach this level so they risk all of this to get that one sell or repair?
4. Canon would actually want someone to get that high, or higher. They would do a commercial how some guy reached a million shots, and the camera kept on ticking.
6. The whole situation rubs logic beyond believeability IMHO.

Stories like this one alwasy make me take out the "does it pass the smell test." This one surely doesn't.

I really didn't believe him...but I didn't want to start spouting off without some further investigation.

He's kind of a whimsical guy...so his 700,000 might have been 300,000 or something like that....but he did sound like he was serious. Of course, he might have been joking.

He's a wedding photographer (been a pro photog in many genres for 40 years)...so maybe a thousand plus images, once or twice a week...maybe not 700,000 but could be plenty.

I think his point was that you will eventually have to upgrade your gear/tools...and that with new models coming out all the time...repair is not always a viable option (or something like that).

I just finished taking a course from a very experience photographer. He claimed that EOS Digital cameras are pre-programed to die after a certain number of exposures/shutter activations. He said that his (I think he said it was a 1Ds)...just quit on him after 700,000.

I know that the shutters are rated for a number of activations...but I have a hard time believing that the camera would just die on purpose.

Any thoughts?

700,000 photos would take many people about 500 years to take. They just don't make them like they used to.

Jim

Canon would be pleased if their camera's lasted 700,000 shots....

That is probably the lamest review I've ever read. Thanks for linking me to it. Now I'm wondering why I don't do a website and criticize the gear I have. :)

"The 30D is a well made, lightweight and reasonably solid camera that's the fastest in its category. This category, as defined by me, is plastic DSLRs."

and this guy deserves his own website why?
