"The 30D is a well made, lightweight and reasonably solid camera that's the fastest in its category. This category, as defined by me, is plastic DSLRs."

and this guy deserves his own website why?

I think he messed that up in his desperation to class the D70 at the same level. What a moron. It only takes using a 1xD in the cold one time to know for sure that it's metal. Or you know, reading the specification.

Pls contribute to his website - he even has the options for monthly donations :) lol

Its not set by Canon - its an option. Read the manual - page 623pi. I have pre-programmed my camera to die after 682,589. The number is part of an alien prime series and therefore replaced the tinfoil hat needed otherwise for the camera. Till that shutter count, its insulated from dying- even if thrown down a 20 storyed building. (I have to remind myself to take the damn lens off)

I heard on a website that all cameras are programed to die after exactly 700,000 shots.
Apprently its something to do with government regulation of photography.
Fortunatly you can get around this problem by wrapping the camera in a damp towel, or useing a special tinfoil camera holder.

That is correct, but you can get another 700,000 shots if you just hold the camera upside down when shooting. After that you can only shoot in portrait orientation. The goverment does not regulate portrait photography because someone might get a flattering portrait of a politician. They can't all be ugly.

Ken Rockwell...N*k*n shill extraordinaire. Ken has founded a cult that has made him lord of the dark side. He is a green box shooter of the first degree, specializing in talking out his backsides. Ken brought funny to photography long before "What the Duck" even thought of quacking people up. If you read most of Ken's nonsense, it becomes readily apparent that he enjoys hearing himself talk...regardless of what is actually spewing forth.;)

HEY!!! Wait a minute!!! You made that up. Everyone knows that 31, 97, 227, 3007, 7037, and 22019 are all factors of 682,589. So if your wrong about that, I am sure your wrong about it being in page 623pi as well.;)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

lol. okay, as long as im not the only one who thinks that way. i have trouble respecting a photographer who has (according to that review) never used spot metering, and says AIFocus is his favorite focus mode. also when you include the loops for the straps in your review, i think youve gone into too much detail.

You gotta admit, the Canon strap loops are a pain in the ass.

I spent 5 minutes looking like an idiot in the shop when i picked up my 30D.
It took me longer to put the strap on that it did to pop in a battery, pop on a lens, set all the custom functions and settings to my liking, and then take a photo.

Now how on earth did Ken Nikonwell get into this thread?
And does everyone realise that everytime you click on his site you make him money?
I might just start a Nikon bashing pro canon Im an idiot with a loud mouth forum myself.

So long and thanks for all the flash

I have Ken's site on my favorite's list. Have quoted him several times, read his 30D instruction manual and have gotten a lot of great ideas from him. A man ahead of his time. I like Ken's site and the work he has put into his research, even if it is controversial. I wish more folks would take the time he has to dissect a camera and to try to explain different ways in which a beginner might learn to shot. So, don't flame me because I got something out of his site. If you don't, that is fine, I did and appreciated his efforts.

Not the primes you know - obviously, you havent had extensive mathematical conversations with aliens. Duh....

A total beginner to photographer might gather some little tit bit of useful information.
Its the amount of mis-information that might also be gathered that is of serious concern though.

I would be far more concerned with the mis-information you got from Ken. Plain and simple....he doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground.

But... take this from someone who shoots everyday with a 20D... he really has no idea what he's talking about. Like, none. Nothing he suggests really relates to what works best in anything but the most static, boring situations.
