Going Medium Format!!!!

Just purchased my first medium format camera today! A Mamiya 645 AF! I can't hold back my excitement, 120 film, omg. Of course, I used the funds I got from selling my 20d, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. I simply can't wait to get some ilford 120 b&w film in that baby!

I have access to a dark room at my school, so I'll be able to control my own prints, and I may even use this thing for some paid work if my clients are interested. I'm hoping the IQ of this thing blows my 30d away.

Medium format is crazy, had a go on it, and took me a bit before i got the hang of the viewfinder. Everything is backwards ! lol

You do know that you can replace the waistlevel finder with a prism on most MF camera KEH should have what you need.

For slide and print film you can save a bit of money by shooting 220. The place I use to process my film charges $4.00 for 120 and $5.00 220 C41 so I save $3.00 by shooting 220.
My favorite films as Ilford FP-4 and HP-5 for B&W and Astia and Fuji Pro 160 for color.

congrats, though your photo budget just went through the roof when you start adding up the supplies and film and printing stuff

Yea, I was looking at the 220 film, but I'm worried about having that many exposures on a single roll. To me it's like shooting with a 2gb card instead of two 1gb cards, the risk of something going wrong, and all images being lost is higher. Then again, saving money is fun too...

I love ilford films! I use XP2 for my 35mm and the quality is unbelievable.

I don't think the view finder comes off this camera though, I believe it's attatched... I know contax cams can do that, don't think mamiya can. I'll look into that, because that would be sweet!

Haha, funny thing is I was going to use the funds to buy a 5d. I planned to sell my 30d, use the funds to upgrade. But I'd rather expand into new mediums... ya know? Digital is fun and all, but one medium, all the time, gets boring.

Yeah, it's hell having a 5D.

i'm just too new school, i'd much rather have my 5d than a film MF, but I'm just a kid and have no respect for film, heh. Congrats on the MF!!

This might sounded like strange question but have you gotten the camera yet?
Reason I'm asking is the AFD 645 is equiped with a Prism finder. But you're correct in that its not removable.

Also remember you can shoot B&W and Color at the same time by simply using multiple backs as the backs come with what called darkslide which allow the switching of backs mid roll.

Nope, haven't received it yet, but yea he was telling me about how I could swap out in the middle of a roll. I'm probably going to pick up a second back off ebay. They're going for between 60-100ish. Cheap!
