Hi all,

I am going to purchase a few good lenses and as you would all know the choices are incredibly hard to make.

I am planing on getting the 70-200 f2.8L IS but now i have been thinking how about the new 70-200 f.4L IS.

The f4 has a fluorite element and I've seen results and they are incredible.
The f 2.8 has i think 4 UD elements, 2 UD are supposed to be equal to 1 fluorite.

I really want the 2.8 but if the newer version has better IQ and IS this is making my choice even harder.

Do you guys think the older 2.8 will be sharp enough to satisfy my perfectionism?

Very reasonable option.

Not relevant, really.

If you want f2.8, there is no choice here. The 70-200 IS lenses are very similar in IQ, so if you need f2.8, get it.

Yes, I do.

See my comparison here: http://www.pbase.com …s/image/70121020/original (external link) . Basically a wash. It comes down to if you need f2.8 or not, bottom line.

I am curious about the 70-200 f4 IS because I have the regular version and it's great. The IS should be amazing.

Suzie, they are very close, the f4 siblings. I had the non-IS before getting the new IS, and they're twins (save for the IS). Both have exceptional color and pop as well as great sharpness.

The "older" version f/2.8IS is a veritable standard for that focal length zoom! If it doesn't have the IQ you need, nothing else in canon's line-up will satisfy you either.

The choice is really whether or not you need f/2.8. The new f/4IS reportedly has incredible IQ (as does the f/4 non-IS), and the fact that now has IS makes it an attractive alternative, especially when you consider the weight issue.

I just get so mad that when people say bad things about the f4 lenses. Heaven sakes! It's still L quality, people. But the price is what makes it unaffordable right now. I'll have to work another month to earn enough money to do it.

The 70-200 F2.8 NON IS is ment to be canons sharpest zoom and I find it tack sharp on Full Frame.

I will not stand for that. Tell me their names. My name is Jack Bauer. I'll take care of 'em for you.

[Really? People say "bad things" about the f4 L? That's truly news to me...]

They are both great lenses, They both have great IQ. Pick on based on your shooting needs.
