Maybe I am just confused but does enabling Custom Function 4 disable AE lock and FE lock?

Hmm so it's either/or? Doesn't it make sense that you would want to seperate metering from shutter and still want to use AE or FE lock? Is there a workaround?

doesnt custom function 4-1 have AE lock as a half press of the shutter button ?

and 4-3 gets rid of AE lock entirely - metering is done when the picture is taken ?

Ahh yes you are correct. I am using 4-3. OK cool, but still no FE lock.

In C-Fn4-1

Keeping the shutter button half way locks the exposure until you lift your finger.

Pressing the star will focus and it will keep focus even if you recompose and press the shutter (the same as FE Lock) until you press the star again to focus on something else.

That's one of the reasons i choose 4-1 as it can come in handy if spot metering isn't enough to get an adequate exposure of your subject.

Plus i don't like the way C-Fn4-3 works in Al servo.
