I know this has been overdone and exhausted to death, but I would just like to make sure ... Would I be right in saying that there is practically no difference in quality between these four lenses:

Canon 17-40 - £539 (-£70) = £470
Sigma 17-35 - £300
Tamron 17-50 - £290
Tamron 17-35 - £280

Is the L worth around £200 more just because of its build quality and AF? If so, which of the third party ones would people reccommend (I'm inclined to go with the Sigma 17-35mm).

What I'm concerned about is if the difference in IQ is minute then that shouldn't be a problem. Firstly because I would be using various filters (NGD, CPL) which will reduce image quality, and secondly looking at this guys gallery (http://www.robertmekis.com …photos&subkateg=landscape (external link))
