Shipping a lense in the mail. Safe?

I was thinking of purchasing a 100mm Canon Macro from B&H to be shipped up to Canada.

Is it safe to ship a lense? Warranty would be a huge pain in the butt if the lense broke on the way up here. Are these lenses packaged well? Does B&H ship/package well?

Thanks a lot!

How do you think they get from the manufacturer to the store? Fairy dust? If the lens breaks in shipment the carrier replaces it. That's not a warranty issue. Even if you bought locally...the lenses your local shop were shipped there too, and probably with even less care by the trucking company than UPS/FedEx/USPS/whoever with theirs.

B&H ships millions of lenses a year. Can they break? Sure. Almost anything can. Will they break? Not likely.

Everything should be OK. Lens itself is packed very well from Canon.
B&H also has a 14 day Return policy.

I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of any fairy dust at the scene of departure or arrival.

If it is fairy dust, where's the happy thought going to come from? Not the lens, certainly :)

I'd use some of that myself with shipping if I knew where the hell to find it

Fellow Canuck here...........In the last 6 months, I've bought a XT, 50 1.8, Tamron 28-75, a grip, a 430EX, a tripod, and a Canon A530 all from B&H. Never any problem at all with the shipping, never received damaged goods. Stuff was well packaged, goods were surrounded by sealed plastic bags, filled with air - not a bad alternative to styrofoam chips.

Never had a problem with the stuff crossing the border either, always used UPS Expedited or FedEx Express, and it got here bloody fast.

Only fees I had to pay upon receiving the shipment was GST and PST.

Don't worry about shipping camera equipment - buy it, and start shooting.

Is stuff is packed properly and shipped insured, you'll be fine. worst that will happen is that you have to return something. Odds of that are very low indeed.

All of our equipment ahs been shipped multiple times. As for BH, I've bought all my stuff there and it goes from NY to CA without problem.
